Mental Health Awareness Week in the United Kingdom takes place the second week of May. Each year there is a new theme.
Everyone has feelings of anxiety at some point in their lives, whether it's preparing for a job interview or bringing up a child. It is normal to experience anxiety in everyday situations. However, persistent and excessive anxiety can cause serious mental health and physical issues.
Anxiety is one of the most common mental health problems in nearly every country in the world. While a low level of anxiety can be a useful motivating force, in some cases it can take over your life.
The success of Mental Health Awareness Week is largely due to the generous support of organizations and individuals throughout the UK who get involved by publicizing the week, organizing activities and events, and hopefully, having some fun as well.
